In my pre-match thoughts I stated that I expected a reaction, and a victory from Posh in Swindon, and it's safe to say they didn't disappoint.
Ryan Tafazolli could've given Posh the lead early in the game, only to be denied by a good save by the home keeper, Lawrence Vigoroux. Posh continued to plug away whilst limiting Swindon to very few chances in the first half. Lee Angol played the role I fully expected him to be recalled to do, giving Posh the out ball they perhaps needed at times throughout the game.
Posh boss Grant McCann labelled Chris Forrester's performance at Bury last week as his worst display in a Posh shirt, and the Irish midfielder responded accordingly. He gave Posh the lead in the first minute of the second half, and thanks to some more solid defending, Posh were back to winning ways.
In all honesty, it could have been more. Tom Nichols missed a glaring opportunity following a pinpoint cross, and at times the decision making in the final third was lacking. Forrester could've fed Gwion Edwards for a potential shot on goal, but decided to go for glory himself. But it has to be said, it was a vast improvement on last week's collapse.
One of the most positive aspects of the game was Dominic Ball's debut, who looked solid all afternoon. He came into a defence which must have been slightly low on confidence after shipping 5 goals at Bury, but they looked assured, and the victory never looked in doubt.
Interestingly, Grant McCann opted for Paul Taylor over new signing Junior Morias when he made a change to his strikers. There's been plenty of talk that Taylor and Marcus Maddison perhaps can't play in the same team, but McCann took the risk. Posh didn't add to their lead, but it was certainly a positive to see both players on the pitch together - creating chances and playing positive, attacking football.
So overall, a good win, and a good clean sheet. Posh continued their run of not losing two league games in a row in the league all season, which can only be positive. But they have a quick turn around, as they travel to John Sheridan's Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night, in the search for the next three points. Oldham have struggled to score goals this season, and find themselves in the relegation places. My pre-match thoughts ahead of the Oldham game can be found right here on Monday!
